The Magical Realism of the Hummingbirds

At the age of just 14, Karolina Sávolt began painting during the coronavirus lockdown, and it quickly became evident that she was a natural talent whose works consistently amaze her ever-growing fan base. After Budapest, she has Barcelona, Dubai, New York and half the world at her feet.

Freedom, Infinity

At first glance, one wouldn’t guess from the modestly smiling teenage girl that she stands out among her peers with her extraordinary talent. Despite her ever-expanding international success, she remains a true teenager, hanging out with friends, making TikToks, reading a lot, playing tennis as a registered athlete, and proudly holding the «good student – good athlete» title. At the same time, at her highly anticipated exhibitions, she chats with figures like Adrien Brody or the painter Sasha Jafri and enthusiastically explains to the astonished audience why a hummingbird appears in almost all of her paintings: «Hummingbirds are the birds of freedom, and they flap their wings in the shape of an eight, which also symbolizes infinity.»

Karolina Sávolt is indeed a remarkable girl who, at such a young age, is already developing her unique and unmistakable style under the keen gaze of the international art world. She was only nine years old when she filled her spare time with drawing during the lockdown imposed by the pandemic. Her parents were the first to notice her initial creations and immediately knew they were raising a God-given talent with great love. It did not take long for experts to recognize the uniqueness of her paintings, and Karolina even named her own creative style: magical realism.

The World at Her Feet

The young talent, while continuously presenting her works in renowned exhibition spaces around the world, also strives to live her teenage years to the fullest. She doesn’t neglect school, attends training sessions, and hangs out with her peers. However, creating art and the accompanying success demand a lot of time and energy. She can always count on her family—her older sibling manages her, and her twin brothers are happy to help her with her studies.

The young artist reads a lot and observes her surroundings, from which she draws inspiration. Her creative process always begins with careful planning, but after that, the piece takes shape and evolves with new elements as she progresses. Karolina spends all her free time painting, and now she even has her own studio where her exciting creations are continuously being produced.

Karolina Sávolt aims to always radiate positivity with her oil paintings, the kind that draws attention to the beauty all around us. At the same time, animal and environmental protection is also very important to her which is often reflected in her works, as she says, «My generation has a particularly great responsibility in the field of nature conservation, for which we have to do a lot.»

Since her debut at the Bodó Gallery two years ago, Karolina’s works have been presented with great success in Barcelona, Dubai, Nice, and New York. For such a young artist, this level of interest and recognition is not only unusual but unique, and it is safe to say that her incredible story is far from over. Karolina Sávolt’s magical realism draws in both art connoisseurs and enthusiasts like a magnet.
